Columbus, OH — At the request of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, Grange Insurance is issuing 1) a 65-day moratorium for cancellation and non-renewal of any insurance policy in effect for any policyholder directly affected by the recent tornadoes occurring in Tennessee on March 31, 2023 and April 1, 2023, and 2) a suspension of any fee or penalty attached to payment activity for policyholders affected by the tornados.
The moratorium will be applied retroactively to March 31, 2023.
The moratorium is not a waiver; it is only an extension of the period in which to pay premiums. After 65 days, the policyholder must resume making premium payments. If an agent or policyholder alerts us that a policyholder needs further assistance because they were displaced by the tornados, we will take those considerations into account before cancelling their policies for nonpayment.
The moratorium applies only to cancellations/non-renewals attributed to failure to pay premiums directly as a result of the disaster events during the 65-day period. If a policy is to be cancelled or non-renewed for any other allowable reason, the cancellation or non-renewal may be made pursuant to the statutory notice requirements.
