Support for Illinois customers affected by recent storms

Posted on December 07, 2018

Recent severe weather led Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner to declare Christian County, Illinois, a state disaster area. In response, the Illinois Department of Insurance (DOI) has issued Bulletin 2018-12, requesting that insurance carriers issue a 60-day moratorium on cancellations and nonrenewals for affected customers.

In addition, we will extend the required time to complete repairs, as well as the 90-day time period for repairs prior to termination due to condition of the property, by 60 days. Any policy provision that is time-sensitive, such as submitting claim information, will be extended by 60 days as well.

This extension will apply from 12:01 a.m. EDT on Nov. 23, 2018, to 11:59 p.m. EST on Jan. 23, 2018. After the moratorium, we will work with insureds directly impacted by the disaster who may request or require additional time to pay premiums that would have been due during the moratorium, make repairs or complete any other time-sensitive act.
