Columbus, OH — Grange Insurance has been selected as an honoree of Columbus Business First’s Diversity in Business Award in the Outstanding Diversity Organization category. The Diversity in Business Awards celebrate the work of inclusive organizations and individuals in Central Ohio and cover excellence in all areas of diversity, including age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race, and religion.
Grange and the other fellow honorees will be recognized at an in-person awards reception on April 6. They will be featured in a special section in the April 8 issue of Columbus Business First.
Launched in 2016, Grange’s enhanced enterprise-wide, multi-year Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) strategy addresses the needs of an ever-changing society and workplace. Led by AVP, Diversity & Inclusion and Community Relations Priscilla Hammonds, the company’s efforts focus on the following four areas:
- Workforce: Grange associates; our focus goes beyond what we look like as diversity is not always visible
- Workplace: An inclusive environment that includes culture, policies, and practices
- Marketplace: Grange agents, customers and suppliers
- Community: Philanthropic giving and corporate social responsibility
“We are on a journey, strengthening our commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, and taking actions that will lead to meaningful and sustainable change,” said John Ammendola, Grange Insurance President and CEO. “This recognition is truly an honor and a testament to our commitment to fostering a company that cares about people and invests in the communities where we live and work.”
Grange’s diversity and inclusion commitment translates into efforts that engage not only its associates, but also its customers, agency partners and the community. A few of these examples include:
- Providing an additional $1 million donation to local nonprofits fighting racism, poverty and increasing access and services for underrepresented groups; Grange associates and the company’s charitable arm also supported organizations advancing racial equality through an annual Grange Enterprise Gives (workplace campaign)
- Offering associates same-sex partner benefits, adoption assistance, fertility treatments, transition surgeries and services and parental leave for associates of all genders
- Conducting annual gender pay equity analysis
- Associate Resource Groups that allow members to learn personally and professionally, contribute to the business outside of their current role, and foster new, innovative ideas that will help move the organization forward
- Introducing a Hate Crime Deductible Waiver for personal lines auto and home insurance customers
- Annual diversity and inclusion training which includes unconscious bias training for all associates; managers go through an advanced leadership training curriculum to become intrinsically inclusive leaders
