Common Kentucky homeowners insurance questions

No, the state of Kentucky does not require homeowners insurance. However, you will likely need it as a condition of your mortgage.

Similar to homeowners insurance, renters insurance is not required by law in Kentucky. Many landlords require tenants to purchase renters insurance before signing a lease and the Kentucky Department of Insurance suggests purchasing renters insurance since a landlord’s insurance only covers damages to the building and not your possessions.

The cost of homeowners insurance will vary by the amount of coverage needed and characteristics of your home, such as the age of the building or if it has custom construction or elaborate design.

Grange partners with independent agents to ensure you have the right coverage to fit your budget. An independent agent can suggest and explain coverages that you need. Find an agent to get started.

Many companies in Kentucky offer optional sinkhole coverage either as an add-on to your homeowners policy or as a standalone policy. However, this coverage is not automatically included in your homeowners policy and there are no legal mandates that require insurance companies to offer this coverage.

Grange offers sinkhole coverage as an optional add-on to your homeowners insurance policy.

According to FEMA, the average flood policy in Kentucky costs $796 per year. For high-risk areas, the cost increases to $1,713. Grange Insurance does not offer flood insurance.

It's important to choose the right coverage by determining your individual needs and how much insurance you need to protect your home and vehicle. Contact your independent agent for a detailed review of your insurance policy and needs.

My wonderful agency steered me to Grange and I love it. The rates are great, and the automatic withdrawal payment option is awesome.

Craig S.

To me, the test of an insurance company isn't how eagerly they take my premium but how they behave when paying a claim. When I contacted Grange, I was provided an adjuster who was kind, thoughtful and efficient. My claim was processed and paid before the work began. Thank you Grange.

Why independent agents?

A businessman smiles and speaks with a customer.

They work for you

Insurance agents who represent one carrier can only provide the best options from a single insurance provider. Independent agents work for you, finding the best coverage options from multiple carriers.

A father sits with his daughter at the kitchen table and helps her use a tablet.

More coverage options

Independent insurance agents consider your needs and any unique home features to find the best coverage. Because they aren’t tied to a specific insurance company, they provide more options.

A couple sit in their bright kitchen and use a laptop to shop online together.

It's easier to comparison shop

Unlike shopping for home insurance online, working with an independent agent makes it easy to compare homeowners policies from multiple carriers. You won’t have to wonder if you’re on the right track since you’ll have an expert in your corner to answer your questions.
